Hip Hop, Song, Southern Rap

New Music: Big Boi > Shutterbugg

Song: Shutterbugg
Artist: Big Boi
Album: Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty
Producer: Scott Storch
Label: Def Jam
Genre: Hip Hop / Southern Rap
Notes: From first solo LP
Analysis: Keeping with his 14-year run as an ATLien, ‘Shutterbugg’ contains some serious spaceship funk. A gurgling talkbox bassline and some jittery synths fill most of the instrumental for Big Boi’s veteran Atlanta flow to bounce around in. This is definitely unexpected from a Scott “Candy Shop” Storch production, a guy who I thought fell off into shitty R&B/pop territory a long time ago. I couldn’t pick out any extraordinary quotables, but that stupefying beat and Big Boi’s presence alone are more than enough to make ‘Shutterbugg’ a one-of-a-kind party jam. But hopefully this is the last of the slowly leaking Sir Luscious Left Foot that we hear before it’s release, because it’s been dragging on for over two years and I’m ready to hear the final product already.
