New Music: Dr. Dog > Shadow People

Song: Shadow People
Artist: Dr. Dog
Album: Shame, Shame
Label: Anti-
Genre: Indie Rock
Notes: First single from 6th LP
Analysis: I’ve admittedly not listened to much Dr. Dog in my lifetime, but have they always sounded so much like the Flaming Lips? There are worse bands to sound like obviously, but I never realized how similar they sounded (well, the Lips’ Embronic sounds nothing like anything, but still). ‘Shadow People’ may be a little too much ‘She Don’t Use Jelly’, but there’s nothing wrong about that at all. It also may not even be intentional, which is why I hate comparing bands to others. The song is about a nighttime community of creepers and eccentrics, but it really works as a sunny, fair-weather type of track. Good job, Dr. Dog. Rating: 7.0
